Ramadan In Makkah & Madinah,

Ramadan is the ninth month in Lunar calendar. The Muslim countries commemorate this month with full zeal. But no country of the world celebrates this month as it is celebrated in Saudi Arabia particularly in Makkah and Madinah. Here the night becomes the day and day walks into the shoes of night. These two Holy cities enjoy a great honor into the hearts of Muslims. They rush to Makkah and Madinah to observe this sacred month in these two Holy cities in the Muslim world.
The appearance of Ramadan moon is observed with 21gun salute. Everyone gets prepared for observing fast. They come to Grand Holy Mosque Makkah and the Prophet’s Mosque at Madinah to offer Esha prayers with 20 rakats of Tarawiah prayers. In this prayer the Holy Quran is recited daily one part.  THe twenty ninth night of Ramadan is observed with full zeal for the completion of recitation of the Holy Quran followed by supplication for welfare of the Muslim world particularly Saudi Arabia for its services to these two Holy cities, which are of great honor to the Muslim world.
Now we see what do find in the Holy Quran and Sunnah of the Prophet peace be upon for this Holy and sacred month.
Allah said : O ye who believed! Fasting is prescribed for you, as it was prescribed for those before you, that ye may ward off evil. (Al-Baqarah/183)
    What is fasting?
Fasting is a voluntary cheerful renunciation of food and drink and all sexual acts to an appointed time from dawn to sunset to please Allah. Fasting purifies the soul and cleans the depravity of the character. It creates durable patience in Muslim character, which comes out of the submission to the absolute will of Allah.
The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Fasting is a shield from the Hell Fire.(Al-Bukhari, Muslim from. Abu Hurairah)
Fasting is prescribed for the whole month of Ramadan but ‘For him who is sick among you or on a journey (the same) number (should be made up) from other days. (Al-Baqarah/184)
The distance allowed for leaving the fasting or curtailing the prayers according to Imam Malik is the journey of a day and night but he reverted from this view and said 48 miles i.e. 77 kilometers. Imam Abu Hanifa did not fix the distance but it is about 86 kilometers.
Ibn Omer and Ibn Abbas used to forsake fasting or curtail prayers if the jouney was 16 farsakh i.e 48 miles (Al-Bukhari) Imam Al-Shafai also held the same distance.
Anas said we undertook a journey in Ramadan with The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) some of us observed fast while others didn’t. No one blame the other for observing or forsaking fasting. (Al-Bukhari, Muslim and Abu Dawood)
However, one who was incapable of fasting due to sickness or a journey, he is required to fast for the days he could not fast before coming of the next Ramadan.
The mother of the believers Aesha (radhiallah anha) reported The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) said: whoever died and could not make up the fasts and he left a‘Wali’ a guardian, he should fast instead of him. (Al-Bukari, Muslim)
Ibn Abbas said; Whoever, can afford to feed an indigent as ransom or gives something moreover or above, it voluntarily is better for him and ‘that you fast is much better for you’ it  is not repealed but it is a remission for the people who are old and incapable of fasting or sick, who lost all hope for recovery. (Ibn Jarir, Ibn Abi Hatim, Al-Hakim)
    Virtues of Ramadan
Ramadan is derivative of Arabic ‘Ramad’ meaning intensive heat, that points to the burning thirst which one  feels in his belly while fasting.
The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) said: It has been named Ramadan as it burns the sins (of those who are fasting) (Ibn Mardawiah from Anas)
The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) said; As soon as the month of Ramadan begins the gates of mercy are opened and the gates of Hell are closed
(for the Muslims), and the devils are enchained. And in another report Allah liberates many of his slaves from the Hell. Every night.
 (Muslim from Abu Hurairah)
The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him)  The five daily prayers and from Friday to Fridayprayer and Ramadan to Ramadan expiate the sins if one avoids the grave sins. (Muslim and Al-Baihaqui from Abu Hurairah)
The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) ascended a step on his pulpit and said ‘Amen’ and then ascended another step and said ‘Amen’ then ascended the third step and said ‘Amen’. The he said Gabriel came to me and said: Whosoever gets Ramadan and could not achieve forgiveness, Allah may keep him away (from His Mercy). I said ‘Amen’. The he said: Whosoever finds his parents or any one of them but sent down to Hell (due to teasing or neglecting them), Allah may keep him away (from His mercy). I said ‘Amen’.  Then he further said if the Prophet’s name is mentioned before one and he did not make the prayer for you (i.e. did not say (sallallaho alaihi wasallam) Allah may keep him away (from His mercy)
Right from the commencing of Ramadan the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him used to set free all the prisoners and gave charity to every beggar. (Al-Baihaqi from Ibn Abbas)
Al-Baihaqui reported from Anas, it was said: O Apostle of Allah, which charity is the best. He said: The charity in Ramadan.
Omer bin Khattab heard the Prophet peace be upon him having said: One who Exults the Glory of Allah in Ramadan, he gets remission and one who begs Allah is not disappointed (Al-Tabrani, Al-Baihaqui)
The Apostle of Allah peace be upon him was very generous and he exulted in generosity in Ramadan, when he met Gabriel, and Gabriel used to meet him every night till the end of the month and the Prophet revised the Quran with him. When he met Gabriel, his munificence even surpassed the blowing of wind. (Al-Bukhari, Muslim and others from Ibn Abbas)
    The Night of Power
Allah said: The month of Ramadan in which We revealed the  Quran. (Al-Baqarah/185. He further said: Verily We revealed it on the night of Power.
Ibn Jarir, Al-Mardawiyya, Al-Hakim and Al-Baihaqui related from Ibn Abbas who said:
The Quran came down from the Tablet on 24th of Ramadan and it was placed in the House of Honor in the heaven of the world. Then Gabriel used to bring it down and recited to the Prophet (peace be upon him) in a slow pleasant style. God chose the month of Ramadan and the reason for this specific preference is the descent of this Holy Book in this sacred month.
Anas reported when Ramadan began the Apostle of Allah peace be upon him said: This month has come,  in it is a night better than thousands months’ (worship) if one loses it sleeping or without worship, he loses all the good. And none is deprived of its virtues except a destitute. (away from Allah). Ibn Maja.
Abu Saeed Al-Khudri reported, we went in seclusion (Aytekaf) for worship in the mosque with the Apostle of Allah peace be upon him in the second ten days of Ramadan, he said: I saw the night of Power, but I forgot when was it, you try to find it in the last ten odd days of Ramadan.
One Hundred Thousand Virtues In Makkah
The Apostle of Allah peace be upon him said In comparison to other mosques the prayer in my mosque (is equal in reward) to one thousand prayers except in the Holy Mosque Makkah the prayer there (in reward)
is equal to one hundred thousand prayers. (Muslim from Abu Hurairah)
Al-Hasan Al-Basri said a fast in Makkah is equal to one hundred thousand fasts. (Al-Aqd Al-Thamin 1/44)
Al-Hasan Al-Basri said: A day of fasting in Makkah is equal to   hundred thousand and every virtue is equal to hundred thousand (Al-Qura Le-Qasid Umme al Quran by Al-Mohib Al-Tabri.)
Ibn Abbas narrated, the Apostle of Allah peace be upon him said: Any- one who gets Ramadan in Makkah fasts and stands in supererogatory prayers as much as he can. Allah does write for him one hundred months of Ramadan, other than the months he was in there and the virtues of liberating a slave in a day and one in a night. And the virtues of giving two lambs in charity seeking
the pleasure of Allah and a  virtue for him every day and a virtue for him every night. (ibn Maja)
Umrah In Ramadan Equals Hajj with the Prophet in Virtues
The Apostle of Allah peace be upon him said to Umme Sanan Al-Ansariya. You perform Umrah in Ramadan, as the Umrah in Ramadan is equal (in virtues) to Hajj and in another report of Muslim, the Umrah in Ramadan is equal to offering of Hajj with me (the Prophet).
Ibn Abbas heard the  Apostle of Allah peace be upon him having said and one who performs Hajj, on each step of his camel. He is rewarded seven hundred virtues of Haram. Do you know what are the virtues of Haram? Every virtue is equal to one hundred thousand. Al-Azraqi-1/254).
Good Manners to be Observed Who fasts
Ahmad, Malik, Al-Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawood , Al-Tirmizi Al-Nasai, Ibn Maja and Al-Baihaqui reported from Abu Hurairah, the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) said: All  the acts (good deeds) of sons of Adam are enhanced from  ten time to seven hundred times except
fasting for that Allah, the High, and the Mighty said: Fasting is for My sake and I will bestow its reward to everyone who abandons food and drink and all actions leading to sex. There are two exhilaration for the one fasting, the joyousness when he breaks fast and jubilation when he meets his Lord. The smell coming out of the faster is far better than the smell of Musk to his Lord.
Abu Hurairan narrated the Apostle of Allah peace be upon him uttered, Allah the High and The Mighty said: All the deeds  of sons of Adam are for himself except fasting, verily it is for Me and I will bestow its reward.
Fast is a shield. If anyone fasts a day, he should not vociferate. If anyone abuses him or curses him. He should say I am fasting. By the one in whose hands is the life of Muhammad, the smell from the mouth of the faster is better to Allah than the smell of the musk. (Al Bukhari, Muslim)
The Apostle of Allah said: whoever fasts with faith and contentment, all his past sins are forgiven. (Al-Bukhari. Abu Dawood from Abu Hurairah)
Omar bin Shoaib, reported from his grand father who heard the Apostle of Allah peace be upon him having said: his supplication at the time of breaking fast is accepted. (Al-Baihaqui)
Abdullah bin Abi Oaf reported the Apostle of Allah peace be upon him said: One who fasts his sleep is counted as worship, his silence as praise, his deeds are doubled and his prayer is granted and his sins are remitted.
Ali bin Abi Talib heard the Apostle of Allah peace be upon him having said: One who restrained from the food and drink due to fast, which he wishes, Allah will feed him from the Jannah (the Heaven).
Abu Hurarah narrated, the Apostle of Allah peace be upon him said: Fast is a shield if he did not pierce it. It was said how one can pierce it? It is said: by lying and backbiting.
Al-Bazzar and Al-Baihaqui reported from Abu Hurairah, the Apostle of Allah peace be upon him said: Three prayers are acceded to. The prayer of the one fasting, and the prayer of a traveler and the prayer of the oppressed.
Abdulah bin Omer reported the Apostle of Allah peace be upon him said: The fast and the Quran will intercede on the day of Reckoning. Fast will say O Lord! I restrained him from eating and involving in sexual acts, so accede to my intercession. The Quran will say I restrained him from the sleep during the night, so intercede  my intercession.  Intercession of both of them will be granted. (Ahmad, Al-Tabrani, Al-Hakim etc.)
Virtues for One who feed Others to Break fast
Zaid bin Khalid Al-Jouhari reported the Apostle of Allah peace be upon him said: One who makes provision for others to breakfast, his reward is the same as of those who observe fast, and nothing is  reduced from their reward. (Ibn Maja.)
The Philanthropist of Makkah and Madinah deserve our appreciation in providing a very generous help to the worshippers of the Holy Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque. In Makkah only Qahwah , tea and dates are allowed inside the Grand Holy Mosque. But outside its plazas hundreds of thousand  fasting persons are provided  with packages having dry food items for breaking fast including Qahawah and tea. But people of Madina go far above in generosity.
The entire Mosque is served with private sector. The boys and others can be seen bringing on their small carts, sufras, dates, packages of yoghurt, thermoses of Qahwah,  Saudi-tea and khubz (bread) including Halawah of dates. They begin to come just after Asr prayers.  The ladies do not lag behind. They also bring all these items. The breakfast is arranged for more than million worshippers in this mosque. More than fifty thousand ladies also enjoy this jubilation of the Philanthropists of Madinah.
Not only this but the worshipers outside the Mosque in plazas are also served with Suhoor (meal before    dawn). Both the mosques only arrange the supply of cold Zamzam to quench the daylong thirst.
So it can be said  the Jubilation of this month of fasting in Makkah and Madinh  far exceeds from all the world.
