Performance of  Hajj is the Most Blessed act to Allah
It is necessary to know the rituals of Hajj for achieving pleasure of Allah.  The very first is ‘Ihram: Two white seamless sheets to be taken on upper and the lower part of the body with intention to perform Hajj. This Ihram is to be borne from appointed destinations =Miqat.
The reverence Sunnah has classified these destinations all around Makkah region. In a report of Ibn Abbas, the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) said: The Place to take Ihram from Madinah is Zul Hulaifah, now known as Abyar Ali, for Syrians is Jahfa, for Najd is Qarn Al-Manazil, now known as Sayl Al-Kabir, for Yemen is Yalamlam, and for others from where they start for Hajj. Makkans will take Ihram for Hajj from Makkah. (Al-Bukhari, Muslim).
But for Umrah the Makkans will go outside the boundary of Haram to Aesha Mosque. The Prophet (peace be upon him) sent mother of the believers Aesha (may Allah be pleased with her) on this place, It is also known as Taneem. The other place is Jorana. No one (coming for Hajj) is allowed to cross these destinations save with Ihram. The Foreign Pilgrims who take Ihram from Jeddah have to sacrifice a goat in charity at Makkah.
The Prophet  said, one must not cross the Miqat save in Ihram, it is mandatory, one who breaks a mandatory act during Hajj or Umra has to sacrifice a goat under Islamic code.
    2. The obligatory act is to reach Arafat on 9th Dhul Hijja even before dawn of next day as the Prophet peace be upon him said Al-Hajj Arafat. i.e. to enter the boundary of Arafat marked all around Arafat is to get Hajj.
It is seen many people stay outside  the boundary pillars, there is no Hajj for them. If the pilgrim could not perform any of the aforesaid obligatory acts, there is no Hajj for him.
The last obligatory act is to Perform Tawaf Al-Ifadha (=going round Kaaba seven times after return from Arafat and Muzdalifa.
Wajibat (actions mandatory) to Perform Hajj.
    1. After coming back from Arafat after Maghrib on 9th ,to stay at Muzdalifa for the first half of the night is mandatory according to Imam Shafai, but Imam Abu Hanifa held that the stay at Muzdalifa must be till Fajr prayers. However, the Prophet
peace be upon him himself stayed till Fajr on tenth Dhul-Hijjah but allowed the weak and the persons having animals for sacrifice to leave Muzdalifa after midnight.
    2. (a) Pelting of Big Jamarah. The time to pelt starts from midnight till the whole day of Immolation i.e. tenth Dhul Hijja till night.
        (b) All the three Jamarat are to be pelted on 11th and 12 th. First small, then middle and then big Jamrah respectively only after midday till night, and if one stayed on 13th at Mina, then he can pelt all the three Jamarat at any time.
    3. To stay at Mina for the most part of the night is Wajib (mandatory) for the persons following  Shafai school. If he misses his stay at Mina on any of the night in performing Tawaf Al-Ifadah, no harm is done to his Hajj. Stay at Mina is Sunnah for the persons following Imam Abu Hanifa.
     4. Any one performing Hajj Ifrad, after coming back from Muzdalifa, he will pelt the big Jamarah, then he will take a part of his hair or shave his head to get out of Ihram. But anyone who is doing Umrah along with Hajj, after pelting big Jamarah, he will do his sacrifice and thereafter he will cut his hair partially or shave his head. He will put off his Ihram and
This is known  Tahalul Al-Asghar, which does away all the prohibitions except sex and sexual intercourse with ones spouse (Wife). That is allowed after doing the last Tawaf i.e. Tawaf Al-Ifadah or Twaf Al=Ziarah (perambulation seven times around Kaaba. For the ladies the hair cut is limited to a finger tip.
Any one performing Umrah only, First he will perform Tawaf and then Sai, after performing Sai, he can cut part of his hair or shave his head to come out of Ihram.
     Kinds of Hajj
Hajj Ifrad is to perform Hajj only in the prescribed months of Hajj. Coming to Miqat (destination) for taking Ihram.one is required to clean up, clipping nails, shaving under arms and pubic hair. Take shower, and take Ihram after two rakats of prayer and say by  the words of mouth that he intends Hajj only to please Allah.  Say Talbiya Labbayek:
Abdullah bin Omer said Talbiya of the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) who said: Labbyak, Allah-humma Labbayak, Labbyak la sharika laka Labbayak,  Inna al-Hamda wa an-nemata Laka wal Mulk La sharik lak.  (Al-Tirmizi) Translation of Takbiyya: Here I am at Thy service O My Lord Here I am, there is no associate with Thee, Here I am, truly the grace and the praise are for Thee. And Thine is the Sole Sovereignty, and there is no associate with Thee.
When pilgrim utters the aforesaid words of Talbiyya. Sahal bin Saad reported, the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) said: No Muslim but one who says Labbayak,
the pebbles, trees and the particles of the clay say with him Labbayak from his right and left till he crosses the land from hither and thither. (Al-Tirmizi and Ibn Maja)
After reaching the Holy Mosque, he should perform Tawaf Al-Qudum = going round Kaaba seven times and stay in Ihram till completion of all the rituals.
    2. Hajj Tamattu. That is making Umrah then Hajj all together. First he will perform  Umrah. He will perambulate Kaaba seven times, then he will go  to As-Safa to start Sai. As-Safa to Marwah one and then Marwah to As-Safa two  this way he will do seven times. Sai will come to end at Marwah. Then cut his hair and put off his Ihram. Then on seventh or eighth Dhul Hijja, he will put Ihramn from Makkah for Hajj and go to Mina. If he goes to Mina on 8th Dhul Hijja he will accomplish five prayers. On the morning of 9th Dhul Hijja he will be taken to Arafat. He will remain there till Maghrib. He will leave for Muzdalifa, he will offer Maghrib and Esha prayers at Muzdalifa. From Muzdalifa back to Mina after midnight as preceded. After pelting big Jamrah, he will sacrifice one goat. Then he
can come out of Ihram. This is Tahalul Asghar.
Hajj Qiran is to perform Umrah and Hajj in the same Ihram, which was put on at Miqat. He will stay in Ihram after performing Umrah and will not cut his hair. He will complete all the rituals of Hajj. After pelting big Jamrah on 10th Dhul Hijjah, he will sacrifice a goat, cut his hair and then put off his Ihram.
   Conditions to Perform Hajj
Must be Muslim, enjoys freedom, a slave has to take permission from his owner, must be able to afford Hajj expenses, must be wise not idiot, and reached puberty.
Prohibitions after taking Ihram
No sexual intercourse with wife,  no actions leading to obscenity,  not to run into mistakes and sins involving Allah’s displeasure, no quarrelling with any one. Allah said: The Hajj pilgrimage is in the well known months, so whoever intends to perform Hajj, therein there is no sexual intercourse (with wife), nor lewdness nor disputing during Hajj. (2/197)
Sunnah has included some other prohibitions, i.e. use of perfume or Attar, putting on sewn clothes for men, clipping of nails, cutting or shaving of hair, no marriage contracts, women will not cover their face with cloth and will not wear the gloves, men will not wear the shoes or socks, sandal covering the upper part of the feet is not allowed.
Ibn Abbas narrated, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Ladies running into menstruation or puerperium reaching Miqat, will take bath and take Ihram. They will do all the rituals except going round Kaaba.  (Abu Dawood)
They will stay in Makkah till they are clean, then take Tawaf –Al-Ifdah, the obligatory Tawaf to complete Hajj.
What is the Place of Sacrifice for the Pilgrims
Specifying the place of sacrifice for the pilgrims Allah said: ‘In there are benefits for you, for an appointed term, they their place of sacrifice is at the Ancient House’. (22/33) The Ancient House is the name of Ka’aba.
Another place Allah said: The penalty is an offering brought to Ka’aba. (5/95). The Ancient House and Ka’aba both refer to the territory of
Haram. Makkah. That is all the sacrifices are to be offered within the boundary of Haram. The scholars are unanimous that all the sacrifices are to be offered with in Haram of Makkah. Few ignorant pilgrims told me, that Hajj sacrifice can be offered in Haram Madinah. It is against the Quran. Who does it their Hajj is void.
   Virtues of offering Sacrifice
In a report of Ahmad, Abd bin Humaid, Ibn Maja, Al-Tabrani, Al-Hakim and Al-Baihaqui, Zaid bin Arqam narrated we said to the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) what is (the basis of) of these sacrifices? He said this is the Sunnah (tradition) of your father Abraham. We said O Apostle of Allah! What reward do we have for performing it? He said: For you a virtue of every hair on its body. They inquired about its wool. He said; For every hair of its wool there is a virtues for you.
Ibn Abbas reported, the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him said: Whatever is spent on the sacrifice is the best of all expenditure on the day of Eid (Al- Adha) (Al-Tabrani, Al-Baihaqui)
The mother of the believers Khadija (may Allah be pleased with her) said: O Apostle of Allah! What do I say when I am going round Ka’aba? He said: Say O Allah! Forgive my sins, errors intentions and dissipation and If thou don’t grant me pardon I will be doomed. (Al-Baihaqui)
In a report the mother of the believers Aesha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: On the Day of immolation no act of son of Adam is the most beloved except shedding of blood of animal in sacrifice and it will come on the Day of reckoning with its horns, hoof and hair. Allah makes it blood to fall on a (sacred) place before it falls on the earth. Get yourself pleased with its acceptance. (Al-Tirmizi, Ibn Maja, Al Hakim)
Abu Hurairah narrated, the Apostle of Allah (may Allah be pleased with him) said who can afford to make a sacrifice on the Day of Eid Al-Adha, and did not do it, he should not approach us  and neither our prayer carpet. (Al-Hakim Al-Baihaqui) It is a warning for those who deliberately avoid mandatory acts and hence punishable.
       To Perform Hajj for Others
A man said to the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) my deceased father did not perform Hajj, can I do Hajj for him? The Prophet said; Had there been a debt on your father, wouldn’t you have paid it. And that would have recompensed your father, The man said yes. He said debt of Allah is much more deserved to be paid. The man said will I get the reward? So Allah sent down: There are the ones for whom there will be share for what they have earned. (2/202) That is to say whoever perform Hajj for a dead, the reward will be between him and the dead.
A woman came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) said my mother died and she had not performed Hajj. Can I perform Hajj for her? He said yes. You do Hajj for her. (Al-Tirmizi from Buraida)
    When one can’t Afford Sacrifice
Whoever combines Umra with Hajj for him is to offer a sacrifice, as can be had with ease and who so cannot afford then fast for three days while on Hajj and seven days when he returns.(2/196)
Ibn Omer said, the Prophet (peace be upon him) has permitted Al-Mutamatte (joining Umra with Hajj), if one is not able to afford sacrifice to observe fast during Tashreeq days (stay at Mina) if he could not fast three days before the Day of Immolatin. (Ibn Jarir, Al-Dar Qutni, Al-Baihaqui) But it is better for him to fast for three consecutive days before 10th Dhul Hijja. The Tashreeq days are for eating and drinking.
 Virtues of Hajj and Umra
Ibn Omer heard the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Whoever
circumambulates Ka’aba and takes seven rounds (one Tawaf) Allah writes a virtue for him on each step he takes and effaces an evil (from his Book of deeds) and raises grade (for him in the Heaven), and he is giving a virtues of liberating a slave. (Ibn Abi Sheba, Al-Hakim and Al-Baihaqui).
The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) said: The wrongs committed in between the first Umra to the performance of another Umra, are expiated and the reward of the blessed Hajj is only the Heaven.
(Al-Bukhari, Muslim from Abu Hurairah).
Ibn Masud narrated, the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) said; Annex Hajj with Umrah. To annex Hajj with Umnra removes the sins and the poverty as the rust of the iron , gold and silver is removed by bellows. The retribution of the blessed
Hajj is only Jannah (the Heaven). Al-Nasai and Al-Tirmizi added there is no believer who passes his day in Ihram except that the sun sets with his sins.
Abu Hurairah narrated the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Hajj is Jihad (struggle in the way of Allah for aged weak and females. (Al-Nasai).
The mother of the believers Aesha (may Allah pleased with her) said: O Apostle of Allah! The best deed is  Jehad. Shouldn’t we take part in Jihad. He said; Nevertheless the best of Jihad is Hajj Mabroor (=i.e. accepted by the grace of God the Unique. (Al-Bukhari, Muslim)
Abu Hurairah reported the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) one who performed Hajj without committing any obscenity or wrangling, he would come back as the day he was born from his mother. (Al-Bukhari, Muslim)
Maiz reported the Prophet (peace be upon him) was asked about the best of the deeds: He said: To keep faith in God the Unique, then Jihad, then Hajj which is accepted supersedes all the acts like rising sun pointing to the west. (Ahmad, Al-Tabrani)
Abu Hurairah reported the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) said:
The pilgrims and those who perform Umra are among Allah’s delegation, what they pray is acceded to, and they are given remission if they ask forgiveness. (Al-Nasai, Ibn Maja)
Buraidah reported the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) said: To spend in the performance of Hajj is like to spend in the way of Allah. Every Dirham is rewarded seven hundred times. ( Ahmad, Al-Baihaqui, Al-Tabrani)
However, we know from the above traditions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) that Hajj and Umra are the best acts for Muslim believers. They are blessed with Allah.
