The Last Meccan Prophet (peace be upon him) & the Liars

The Holy Prophet himself explained the above revelation and explained the meaning of the word 'Khataman Nabiyeen' as the very last of the Prophet. There is a chain of traditions and I quote few of them.

1. The Holy Prophet (peace on him) said: That my example and that of the Apostles is like that of a most beautiful palace but in it a space for a brick is left. The visitors go round it, astonishing on the beauty of the structure except for the space of that brick, I came and filled that apostolic space of the brick, with me that Apostolic structure got completed and with me the apostles ended.' (An agreed tradition)
2. Ubai Bin Kab narrated: The Holy prophet (peace on him) said: My example among the prophets is like a person who built a house, decorated and completed it, but left a room for one brick and did not place it. The people marveling on the structure from all its sides said, 'would that the place of this brick had also been filled in,' among the prophets,! am to fit in the place of that last brick. (Imam Ahmad). ln another tradition narrated by Saeed-al-Khudri the words are "Then I . came in and filled up the place of that brick. (Imam Ahmad)
The Holy Prophet (peace on him) elucidated the meaning of Khatamun Nabiyeen, in the above tradition by giving the example of the last brick completing the structure, and clearly told that the Apostolic Palace has been completed by his arrival and no place for any Apostle or Messenger is left, that he is the last of the Prophet.
3. Jubair Bin Mutam narrated: The Holy Prophet (peace on him) said," I have many names, I'm Muhammad, I'm Ahmad, I am the Eraser with whom God will erase the unbelief, I am the Resurrector, the people will be resurrected on my feet, I am the very last after whom there is no Prophet. And in Tirmiz's it is also reported: I am the 'Aqib,' the one after me there is no prophet.
4. Abu Huraira reported, the Holy Prophet having said: I have been gifted with six special privileges over all the the prophets. I have been bestowed the eloquent enriched speeches, aided with awe, booties are made lawful for me, the entire ground stands purified as mosque, (for offering prayers) for me, I have been sent for all the creation as universal Messenger and with me the Prophets ended." (An agreed tradition).
5. Abu Huraira reported, the Holy Prophet (peace on him) having said, "I am the last of the prophets and my mosque is the last of the mosques. (Muslim)
6. Abi Umamah Bahali narrates in a long tradition that the Holy Prophet (peace on him) said: I am the last of the prophets and you are the last of the peoples." (Ibn Maja, Ibn Khazima and AI-Hakim).
7. The Mother of the believers Aisha reported the Holy Prophet (peace on him) having said:I am the last of the prophets and my Mosque is the last of the prophets' Mosque." (Dailmi and-AI-Bazzar, Kanz).
8. Salman narrates in a long tradition that Gabriel told the Holy Prophet that your Lord says: If I chose Adam, I did end the Prophets with you, and I did not create any one more 'excelling' than you." (Khasais vol 2 p. 193).
9. Abi Zar reported the Apostle of Allah having said," 0 Abu Zar the first of the prophets is Adam and the last of them is Muhammad Mustafa (peace on him).(Abu Noaim, Ibn Asakar, Tirmizi)
10. Ibn Amar narrates, one day the Holy Prophet came to us as if he is departing from us and said: I am Ummi Prophet (Ummi is one who cannot read or write but even then he had the greatest knowledge of all things and it is his miracle), (and he uttered this three times) and there is no Prophet after me, I have been gifted with most intelligently worded eloquent oration, when I am present among you, listen to me and obey me but when I am taken away, it is obligatory on you to act on the (directions of the Holy Book, take lawful what has been made lawful in it and prohibit on yourself what is forbidden in it.
(Ibn Mardoya, Imam Ahmad has also narrated almost the same version).
11. Abi Umamah Bahali narrated that Holy Prophet in the address of his last Haj said, "0 people there is no Prophet after me and there is no Ummah after you, pray your Lord, offer the,5 prayers, fast in your month, pay Zakat (charity tax2and a half%)on your wealth, and stock and purify yourselves with it, obey your rulers (so for they do not oppose you in religion) you will enter the Garden of your Sustainer."(Kanz, Musnad Ahmad).
12. In a tradition reported by Tabrani and Baghwi, Abi Qabilata narrated that the Apostle of God said, "There is no Prophet after me and there is no Ummah (people) after you …"
Every prophet had his people, and since Muhammad Mustafa (peace on him) is the last of the prophets, therefore, all mankind till Doomsday are his people.
13. AI-Dhuhak Bin Faufil quoted the Holy Prophet having said: There is no Prophet after me and there is no Ummah (people) after my people (Al-Bai-Haqui in his Book Al-roya)
14. Umar Bin Khattab narrated in a long tradition that an Arab Bedouin said to the Holy Prophet (peace on him): I wont believe in you, till this Iguana believes in you. Then the Holy Prophet asked the Iguana, "who am I," it answered in a clear Arabic language which was understood by all the folk." 0 the Prophet of the Lord of the worlds, here I am in submission before you." The Holy Prophet said," To whom you worship." It replied, "to one whose throne is in the sky, whose rule is on the land, who has his way in the sea (meaning whose sovereignty extends to land and seas), the Garden is His Mercy, the Hell has His tortures." The Holy Prophet said," who am I. "The Iguana answered," You are the Apostle of the Lord of the worlds and the last of the Prophets." (Tabrani in his 'Al-Ausat,' Al-Bai-Haqui, Abu Noaim and Ibn Asakar)
There is a chain of traditions which tell us that not only the animals talked to the Holy Prophet (peace on him) but also the stones spoke that there is no God but He and Muhammad-ur-Rasool-Allah. This all comes within the preview of the miracles. Muhammad Mustafa (peace on him) was endowed with numerous miracles. The significance of the above miracle is faith in the finality of prophet-hood of Muhammad Mustafa (peace on him), it is 'incumbent on every Muslim to believe the cession of prophet-hood on him, otherwise the non-believer on the finality of his prophet-hood is a non-Muslim.
15. Abi Hazim narrates," I sat with Abu Huraira for five years and heard him reporting from the Holy prophet (peace on him), "Prophets used to guide Bani Israel, whenever a prophet died another prophet succeeded him and verily there is no prophet after me, there will be caliphs and they will be many." (Bukhari and Ahmad etc.).
Hafiz Ibn Hajar writes, "when ever there were dissentions among Israel, God used to send His Prophet to reform them and correct whatever change, they did in the Old Testament." The duties performed by the prophets have now been assigned to Khulafas (caliphs or Ulamas) of this Ummah as the Prophet-hood ended. This shows the magnanimity of this Ummah that they have been awarded the work of prophet, as God says:

"Let there arise out of you A band of people, inviting to all that is good Enjoining what is right, and forbidding what is wrong
They are the ones, to attain felicity (3/104)

16. Ibn Asakar quotes Ibn Abbas to have narrated from the Holy Prophet that he said. "Prophet-hood is for me and for you Khiliafat i.e. to act as my assistant. (Kanzul Amal Vol: I, p. 180)
17. Saad bin Abi Waqqas narrated that the Apostle of God (peace on him) said to Ali, "you are to me in the same status, as Aaron's to Moses except verily there will not be any prophet after me. (Agreed tradition).
In the words of 'Muslim' the Holy Prophet in one of the invasion left Ali behind, Ali said, to the Holy Prophet, "0 Apostle of Allah you leave me with women and children, the Apostle of Allah (peace be on him) said, to him," Are you not pleased to get the status as of Aaron's to Moses, except that there will not be any prophet after me."
Since Aaron was a prophet along with Moses, and Aaron also succeeded Moses in his absence, therefore, people could have thought of continuance of prophet-hood when Ali was told to have the status of Aaron. However, the Apostle of Allah immediately brushed off the possibility of conceiving any such idea by saying that there will not be any prophet after him.
18. Uqba Bin Amir quoted the Holy Prophet having said, "Had there been a prophet after me, it would have been Umar bin AI-Khattab. (Tirmidhi, AI-Khateeb, Tabrani)

19. Anas Bin Malik narrated that Apostle of God (peace on him) said, "There has occurred a cessation of prophet-hood, and apostleship, after me. There will not be any prophet or apostle," (When) the Holy Prophet uttered this, people felt lugubrious on it, but he (further) said, "there are bringers of glad tidings". The people inquired," What are bringers of glad tidings," he said," The (righteous) dreams of a Muslim which are a part of prophet-hood. (Imam Ahmad)
